Sweet Sujuk is a 100% natural fruit juice roll that has crunchy walnuts mixed into it. Originating in the 17th century in the Ottoman empire, Sweet Sujuk was originally made as an exclusive delicacy for the Ottoman royalty. The snack quickly became widespread throughout the empire, being sold as a popular delicacy at all bazaars.

Sweet Sujuk was historically made with natural fruit juices as the primary ingredient of the product. However, the invention of molasses has unfortunately replaced the natural fruit juice in most modernly produced Sweet Sujuk since molasses is cheaper and more easily acquired.

Chella’s Sweet Sujuk is handmade in Vancouver British Columbia with an authentic recipe using ONLY 4 ingredients: 100% natural fruit juice, freshly chopped walnuts bits, and a sprinkle of flour + sugar.

Our Sweet Sujuk is primarily made out of 100% natural fruit juice, which is responsible for the intense fruit flavour. Walnut bits are mixed into the chewy fruit juice rolls, which add a crunchy texture and contrast the sweetness of the fruit juice with their nutty flavour.

Check out our Sweetness/Sourness graph in the product photos!

Sweet Sujuk is a snack that can be eaten at anytime 😉, but here are some of our favorite use cases:

  • A sweet treat to serve along with tea or coffee
  • An energy-inducing snack while hiking, or as a delicious treat to enjoy once your hike is complete💪
  • Sliced up into oatmeal or yogurt to add flavour and nutrition to your breakfast
  • A tasty treat to share as a gift during holidays

Sweet Sujuk originated in the 17th century in the Ottoman empire. It was originally made as an exclusive delicacy for the Ottoman royalty. The snack quickly became widespread throughout the empire, being sold as a popular delicacy at all bazaars.

Sweet Sujuk was historically made with natural fruit juices as the primary ingredient of the product. However, the invention of molasses has unfortunately replaced the natural fruit juice in most modernly produced Sweet Sujuk as molasses may be cheaper and more easily acquired. Artificial colors are also added to give the appearance of real fruit.

Rest assured, our Sweet Sujuk recipe is fully natural using no molasses, artificial colors or preservatives.

Store in a dry, ventilated place, at a temperature not exceeding 22°C/71.6°F, like in your pantry!

In these conditions, Sweet Sujuk is good for up to 6 months. However, fresher Sweet Sujuk will have a softer texture. If stored for a longer period of time, the sweet sujuk may become very firm and chewy, but don’t worry, the product will still be good to eat!

I’m prefer the texture and flavours of the churchkhela. The flavour of the sujuk is good, but it has a doughy-chewy texture that I am not a fan of.
