Every piece follows our Chella Formula — 45% real fruit juice, 45% whole nuts, and 10% flour — with absolutely no added sugar, chemicals, or preservatives. Just simple ingredients, made with care.

Handcrafted with Care

Every strand of Churchkhela is made by hand. Whole walnuts or hazelnuts are carefully threaded on cotton twine, then dipped repeatedly into pure fruit juice until fully coated. Each piece is slowly air-dried over several days, creating a naturally sweet, chewy texture rich in real fruit flavor. No shortcuts. No machinery. Just time-honored craftsmanship.

From Georgia to Vancouver — and Now Longmont, Colorado

Our story began with a craving for home. One of our founders, raised on traditional Churchkhela in Georgia, began recreating a cherished family recipe after moving to Canada. In 2022, demand from friends and family inspired the birth of Chella.

Today, we continue to craft each batch with the same care and tradition, now expanding our production to Longmont, Colorado, to better serve our growing U.S. community — while staying true to the heritage that started it all.

The Chella Formula

Each Churchkhela is coated in real fruit juice, which makes up 45% of every piece. The flavor comes entirely from the fruit itself, as the nut string is dipped to build a smooth, rich fruit layer that defines the taste and color of each flavor.

Pieces of nuts are carefully hand-threaded onto a food-safe string, forming the core of each Churchkhela. This traditional string of nuts is then dipped into fruit juice, following a centuries-old method that defines the authentic way Churchkhela is made.

A small amount of flour is added only to gently thicken the fruit juice, allowing it to bind evenly to the nuts and form the rich, thick fruit coating that defines every Chella Churchkhela. This traditional step helps achieve the signature texture while keeping the recipe simple, natural, and true to its origins.
